Muscle Energy Techniques
What is it?
Muscle energy techniques (MET) are an active technique where the patient contracts specific muscles against resistance to improve range of motion and reduce tension. It is based on the concept of reciprocal inhibition which is a neuromuscular process where by contracting one muscle group (the agonist), another muscle group (the antagonist) responsible for the opposite action must relax to allow for the movement to occur. This is a technique that we use quite regularly.
How it helps
✔ Helps relax tight muscles
✔ Increases range of motion
✔ Promotes blood flow
Beneficial for:
Pelvic Imbalances
Low Back Pain
Wry Neck
